Attorney Ernesto D. Borges, Jr. is one of Chicago's most notable attorneys, whose distinguished career is built upon military service, entrepreneurial leadership, and an unwavering commitment to serving the community. A proud graduate of historic Wendell Phillips High School (Class of 1964), Mr. Borges demonstrated exceptional leadership early in life, serving as Vice President of his senior class and holding leadership positions in several student organizations, including the Boys Service Club, Latin Club, Negro History Club, and Science Club. He was also Vice President of the Drama Club, appeared in numerous stage productions, and was a member of the 1962 Illinois State Championship Track Team.

Following graduation, Mr. Borges attended Loop City College (now Harold Washington College) and Northern Illinois University before answering the call to serve his country in the United States Army. During his tour of duty in Vietnam, Sergeant Borges was awarded the Bronze Star for Heroism, a second Bronze Star for Meritorious Achievement in Ground Operations Against Hostile Forces, and the Purple Heart, along with numerous other military honors recognizing his courage and service.

After returning home, Mr. Borges earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Theater from Southern Illinois University. He briefly pursued a career in theater in New York City before returning to Chicago, where he worked as a school teacher and later served in several leadership roles with the Illinois State Board of Elections, including Administrative Assistant to the Chairman. Inspired to make an even greater impact, he enrolled at Northern Illinois University College of Law and earned his Juris Doctor.

Rather than joining an established firm after graduation, Attorney Borges chose to build his own practice. He founded The Law Offices of Ernesto D. Borges, Jr., P.C., and later established BillBusters, a consumer bankruptcy practice that grew into the largest African American-owned bankruptcy firm in the United States. Throughout his career, he has helped thousands of individuals and families eliminate overwhelming debt, stop foreclosures, protect their homes, and regain financial stability.

Today, Attorney Borges has expanded his practice well beyond bankruptcy. While continuing to advocate for clients facing financial challenges, he now represents individuals and families in a broad range of civil litigation matters, including probate and estate administration, estate planning, real estate transactions and disputes, mortgage foreclosure defense, and related civil matters. Drawing upon decades of courtroom experience and practical legal knowledge, he provides thoughtful, results-oriented representation tailored to each client's unique circumstances.

Attorney Borges is widely recognized for his integrity, compassion, and dedication to achieving meaningful results for those facing difficult legal challenges. His client-centered approach has earned him the trust and respect of generations of individuals and families throughout the Chicago area.

Beyond his legal practice, Attorney Borges remains active in public service and community engagement. He has hosted The Debt Free Show on Inspiration 1390 AM and The Borges Report on WVON Radio, where he has educated listeners on legal issues, current events, and consumer rights. He also continues to support the arts and remains involved in Chicago's theater and film communities.

A member of numerous civic, charitable, and professional organizations, Attorney Borges and his wife, Dr. Stephanie Borges, an obstetrician-gynecologist, have dedicated their lives to serving their community.
